The storied Venice Film Festival is back.
And for its 78th edition, stars are serving red carpet looks more fabulous than ever.
Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet, who celebrated the opening of their latest film Dune, a sci-fi directed by Denis Villeneuve, stole focus on Friday night. Exiting the speed boat at the Palazzo del Cinema on the Venice Lido in full Valentino Couture, Zendaya swapped her blazer for a wet look, custom Balmain dress paired with a hefty Bulgari snake emerald necklace. Beside her, Chalamet continued his boundary-pushing red carpet style in a sleek, Haider Ackermann black crystal top and trousers, with sharp shoulders and Cartier rings.
Also attending the carpet for Dune, Cynthia Erivo made a statement in Schiaparelli, with a black skirt, yellow silk belt and an unmissable, frothing metallic top.
Dakota Johnson arrived with Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele wearing a full bejewelled Gucci gown for the premiere of her film, The Lost Daughter, which is directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and also features Olivia Colman. The latter opted for a collarless velvet suit with pagoda shoulders and crystal buttons at the premiere.
Earlier in the festival celebrities headed to a viewing of Madres Paralelas, a film about motherhood starring Penélope Cruz, who looked chic as ever in a navy and cream tulle Chanel couture gown. Joining her in front of cameras was Helen Mirren, who shimmered in teal sequins (complete with matching mask), Edward Enninful, who arrived with the Italian model Mariacarla Boscono wearing a striking Jean Paul Gaultier number, and a little royalty with twins Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer, the late Princess Diana’s nieces.
Princess Diana herself is portrayed by Kirsten Stewart in the new film ‘Spencer’ which was shown in Venice on Friday. The actress, who was the only attendee at Chanel’s fashion show in December, wore a mint green jumpsuit by the house for the red carpet, and Chanel tweed short jacket combination for the photo call.
Co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Kristen Dunst attended the screening of The Power Of The Dog, their new ranch-based Netflix drama, on Thursday. Both arrived by boat in sleek tailoring for the daytime celebration, Dunst opting for an embellished tulle black gown for the red carpet, while Cumberbatch sported a navy suit with black lapels.
The 10-day festival continues through to September 11 and has gems still to come, including ‘The Last Duel’ with Jodie Comer and Matt Damon. Bring on the looks.
