English Wine Week 2018 is a national campaign, set to celebrate English wine across the country. Commencing over the Spring Bank Holiday, from May 26 until June 3, it's the perfect excuse to visit a vineyard - and to sample a glass or two yourself. 

The English Wine Producers website lists over 50 events, so chances are there's a vineyard tour and tasting near you, a restaurant offering English wines by the glass, or perhaps a wine pairing dinner.

Here's our pick of the best to put in the diary...

Tour and tasting at Halfpenny Green Vineyard

Halfpenny Green Vineyard in the midlands boasts 30 acres of vines. For £10 per person, you can take a tour around both the vines and winery, followed by a tasting of four wines (£10 per person). We also recommend visiting the wine shop (where you'll receive a 10 per cent discount), restaurant, deli and tea room.

On May 30, join James McLean of Chapel Down at Careys Manor Hotel to celebrate the food and wine of the British countryside. Chapel Down produces world-class  and sparkling English wines from a vineyard in Tenterden, Kent. For £55, the evening includes a selection of canapés and a four-course dinner celebrating the British countryside (each course will be matched with a selection of wines from Chapel Down).

You can also enjoy a  three-course English wine paired menu at Cambium Restaurant at Careys Manor Hotel (created by head chef Alistair Craig) throughout English Wine Week for just £35. Cheers.

Woodchester Valley Vineyard tour and tasting

Take the opportunity to learn about wine making in the Cotswolds at Woodchester Valley vineyard, which is holding tours and tastings on Wednesday May 30 at 6:15pm and Saturday June 2 at 11am and 3pm (£15pp).  

The price includes an aperitif, explanations of the grape varieties grown and the life cycle of the grapes, a tour of the winery (with details of the winemaking process for both still and sparkling wines) and a full tutored tasting of five wines. There's also a cheese and wine tasting on Saturday May 26 (£15pp). Wine tasting flight at St Pancras Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys

This is said to be the longest bar in Europe, and it's synonymous with champagne and sparkling wine. It will be offering an English sparkling wine flight throughout English Wine Week, comprising of Greyfriars Cuvee Brut NV, Nyetimber Classic Cuvee Brut NV and Furleigh Estate Blanc de Noirs Brut 2014, for £19.50. On Thursday May 31 from 7pm, Michelin-starred seafood restaurant Angler will host a paired wine dinner in partnership with Nyetimber. Focussing on the best of British produce, it will partner five of Nyetimber’s  sparkling wines with a six-course menu by executive chef Gary Foulkes (£130). The menu centres around seafood sustainably sourced from British waters - think Cornish turbot and Dorset crab.

English wines by the glass at Lympstone Manor

To celebrate English Wine Week, Lympstone Manor will be offering diners a variety of English wines by the glass. Chef Michael Caines has announced the planting of a vineyard within the 28-acre estate on the East Devon Exe (he has now planted approximately 18,000 vines, with the aim of producing classic champagne-method sparkling wines). Anyone for another glass?

English Wine Week 'bill of fare' at Simpson's in the Strand

Simpson's in the Strand has collaborated with the Ridgeview Estate in Sussex to create a four-course food and wine pairing menu (book directly to reserve a table).

Meanwhile, English wines available by the glass will include the Ridgeview Blanc de Blancs Brut (100 per cent single estate chardonnay), the Ridgeview Blanc de Noirs Brut, and the Ridgeview  Rosé De Noirs Bruts. But you'll be forgiven for buying the whole bottle, anyway.

Michelin-awarded chef Shaun Rankin has launched a limited-edition menu with paired English wines at Ormer Mayfair at Flemings hotel: look out for wines from the the Ridgeview, Gusbourne, Albourne and Denbies Estates (£69 per person).

Expect fresh, seasonal food: lamb fillet, or sea bream with fried oysters. Meanwhile, underground wine cellar the Barrel Room will host exclusive wine tastings.
