Best ever Met Gala dresses: from Gisele Bündchen to Kendall Jenner, Princess Diana to Taylor Swift, we round up the best from the Met Ball red carpet

With 2017's awards season well and truly behind us, you would be forgiven for thinking that the world's red carpets have been rolled up and packed away for the foreseeable. But you'd also be wrong.

This year's Met Gala takes place in just a matter of days, and with it being one of the fashion calendar's most eagerly anticipated events celebrity attendees and their stylists will undoubtedly be spending the next few days drowning in a sea of fabric and safety pins as the final adjustments take place.

Having spent the last few weeks ensuring that their designs will be worn by the most photographed stars on the guest list, fashion houses will be busy trying to fulfil every need of their client's to ensure no last minute emergency dress swaps take place.

Proving a popular choice over the years, Alexander McQueen designs will no doubt be in high demand having catered for the likes of Diane Kruger (2011), Gisele Bündchen (2011), Florence Welch (2012) and Nicole Kidman (2016) at previous Met Galas.

Stella McCartney also looks likely to be go-to designer for a number of attendees, with her pieces having been worn to the Ball by Kate Moss (2008), Kate Bosworth (2014) and Cara Delevingne (2014 & 2015).

However, with this year's theme of Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons - the first living designer to be the sole subject matter of the event since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983 - we predict several more exciting sartorial risks will be taken, a number of which - we hope - will be hits.
