Nottingham is home to the UK’s best fish and chip shop, it was announced at last night’s National Fish & Chip Awards 2020.

The Cod’s Scallops in Wollaton, Nottingham took the top spot, winning the esteemed Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award.

Owned by husband and wife duo John and Helen Molnar, The Cod’s Scallops topped a shortlist of 10 fish and chip shops which were announced in September last year, with Borough Market’s Fish! also making the top 10.

The shortlist was judged on criteria including excelling in sustainability, menu innovation, catering for special dietary requirements, customer service and marketing activity and the shops were judged over an eight-month period.

John Molnar said: ‘We’re absolutely thrilled to be crowned the UK’s best fish and chip shop! It’s an honour to take home such a prestigious title, especially being up against the country’s top establishments.”

A total of 16 awards were given out, and the only London-based chippy to win was Sutton & Sons, named as the Best Multiple Operator.
