Oxford International College is at the top of the tree when it comes to A-level performance among independent schools, according to the latest available data.

The private college achieved a 91.8 per cent A-A* rate or equivalent, one of only two schools to surpass 85 per cent when it comes to this measure according to data released by the Independent Schools Council (ISC).

Some independent schools decline to release their results in this fashion so it may be possible that there is a better performing school out there. However, Oxford International College is the best among the roughly 294 schools who entered at least 10 candidates and agreed to have their results published.

Cardiff Sixth Form College came second in our table for 2018/19 results, with 89.9 per cent A-A* or equivalent. King's College School in Wimbledon is third with 84.2 per cent.

This year’s A-level exam results have revealed that 17.2 per cent of entries from independent schools achieved an A*, more than twice that of the national average of 7.8 per cent.

The proportion of pupils getting three A* grades or equivalent stood at 7.2 per cent.

Barnaby Lenon, chairman of ISC, said: "Regardless of whether a pupil wants to pursue a more academic or vocational pathway, independent schools are well-placed to enable them access to the route that will best meet their needs.

"This year’s results show that schools are offering a wider array of educational opportunities and effectively supporting pupils to fulfil their potential."
