If you've picked up a new iPhone within the past few years, you're sure to have noticed that it comes with a USB-C-to-Lightning cable that isn't compatible with your existing charger. We know, it's probably down there at the bottom of the box still.

That cable is worth digging out once you've got the right wall plug, though, because you'll be able to refuel your phone far more quickly. Trust us, it makes a massive difference.

That old 5W brick that you've relied on since your iPhone 6 takes forever, and things don't have to stay that way. It's time to upgrade to a fast iPhone charger, and we're here to help find the best one for you.

We know that the world of charging is a bit of a minefield and it can feel like there are loads of specs to sift through. That's especially true now that the newest iPhone 15 or 16 models have a USB-C port rather than Lightning. So, we've done the hard work for you and collected the best iPhone chargers below.

We've picked our favourite adapters, cables, power banks and wireless chargers. Where possible, we've selected ones capable of fast charging. If you've been used to waiting hours for a recharge, you're about to see your phone gain back half of its battery in under half an hour.

How Digital Spy tests iPhone chargers

We tried out the best iPhone chargers by refuelling our devices – including an iPhone 15 Plus, 15 Pro Max and SE – and timing how long they took while evaluating specs, design and convenience. There's a lot on the market and we wouldn't go with the cheapest no-name cable and charger manufacturers for safety reasons (more on that below), so we focused on trusted brands for our picks. The below recommendations are a combination of our hands-on testing and expert research.

What is the fastest charger for an iPhone?

Apple first introduced fast charging in 2017 with the iPhone 8 (although what we call fast speeds on iPhones would be considered slow compared to some Android models). The fastest chargers for iPhones use USB-C connectors, as we'll explain below, and the key thing you want to look for is "PD" (which stands for Power Delivery). It's a high power specification that makes charging faster when using a USB-C cable.

In our experience, the fastest you can get the iPhone models we tested back to 50% full is within 25 minutes, give or take a few seconds. This is about the same whether you use a USB-C to Lightning cable on an iPhone 14 or you're using a USB-C to USB-C cable on an iPhone 15.

If you turn on Airplane Mode and leave the phone alone, it should be able to get half full in under 20 minutes. The reason that we test up to 50% is that iPhones charge at full speed until around 70-80% and then slow down on the way to 100%. This is known as "trickle charging" and it plays an important role in helping your iPhone battery last longer.

Anker 511 Nano Pro

Charging speed: 20W USB-C | Ports: 1x USB-C | Dimensions: 4.76 x 4.14 x 2.08 cm (not including prongs) | Weight: 47.44g

If there's one low-cost upgrade you can make to get your iPhone charging faster, it's to dig out your USB-C-to-Lightning or USB-C to USB-C cable and toss Anker's Nano Pro charger in your basket. We like to keep our charging tech as compact as possible and this one is small, powerful and reliable, delivering the quick speeds you need – on test, we got our iPhone 13 mini up to 50% battery in exactly 25 minutes.

Compared to the standard 511, this has improved temperature monitoring for safety. Like many of our charger picks here, the 511 doesn't come with a cable, so you'll need to find the one in your iPhone box or add one of our cable recommendations below.

Anker 333 USB-C to USB-C cable

Until now, you’ve been relying on a cable with a Lightning connector on one end for your charging needs, but with the release of the iPhone 15 series – which has a USB-C port on the bottom – you’ll need a USB-C to USB-C of these in your bag instead.

There are a lot of options out there, but we are fans of the Anker 333 due to its affordable sub-£10 price point, the tough braided nylon build and the support for up to 100W of power when paired with a compatible wall charger. The 1.8m length should be more than enough for most users, but there's also a longer 3m version for £11.49.

Anker 622 Magnetic Power Bank

Charging speed: 12W USB-C, 7.5W wireless | Dimensions: 10.5 x 6.65 x 1.27 cm | Weight: 141.75g | Capacity: 5,000mAh | Ports: Wireless magnetic charging and USB-C (input and output)

One of the most convenient magnetic power packs for most people, this dinky Anker gadget has a decent capacity for an extra top-up of your iPhone (it isn't quite enough to fully recharge most models). From the magnetic pad, it provides up to 7.5W of maximum power, which is standard for third-party devices that don't get Apple's fastest official MagSafe speeds or the newer Qi2 speeds.

It also has a fold-out stand so you can use it to watch videos at your desk while it charges up. And, for those times when you'd rather use a cable, you can hook one up to the USB-C port for decent (albeit not quite PD) charging rates. Overall, we reckon it's a pretty good value option at £49.99 and compact enough to slip in your pocket or bag for some extra power in a pinch.

Anker 641 USB-C to Lightning Cable (Flow, 6ft Silicone)

Lengths: 1m or 2m | Colours: White, Black, Yellow, Pink, Grey, Purple, Green and Blue

We know what you're thinking, aren't all USB-C cables the same? Sadly, they're not. The market is full of dodgy off-brand ones that will stop working or break before too long. Yes, the Apple official cable is what comes in the box, but we've seen a few too many frayed ones to give it our top recommendation.

Anker's "Flow" range is what you'll find on our bedside table because it's soft yet resilient, comes in loads of colours, won't tangle, and claims to withstand 25,000 bends. We also use the USB-C to USB-C version of this for charging iPhone 15 models.

Anker Bio-Based USB-C to Lightning Cable

Lengths: 1m or 2m | Colours: White, Blue, Green, Black

These "bio-based" cables have a refreshed design with an integrated cable tidy system, and they're made out of plant-based materials like corn and sugar cane. They've become our new go-to cables as we prefer tidy storage, and find them durable and reliable.

The USB-C to Lightning ones support up to 30W fast charging (more than enough for iPhones), but the USB-C to USB-C ones go up to a power output of 100W, so we use them for our MacBook, iPad and wireless earbuds too. The price can be a little higher than some rivals but they often go on offer.

OtterBox USB-C PD UK Wall Charger 20W and Reinforced USB-C to Lightning Cable, MFi Certified

Charging speed: 20W USB-C | Ports: 1x USB-C | Dimensions:
4.29 x 2.9 x 4.98cm | Weight: 85.2g

There isn't a world of difference between our Anker pick, the Apple model and this Otterbox one, given that they all deliver PD charging speeds.

Which one you choose may well come down to the price and the design you prefer – this one has a similar form factor and weight to Apple's, just without the fold-down prongs. It's good value, at £30.99 for an MFI-certified (that's "Made for iPhone") charger and a reinforced cable too.

Apple 20W USB-C Power Adapter (2024)

Charging speed: 20W USB-C | Ports: 1x USB-C | Dimensions: 5 x 4.7 x 3 cm (not including prongs) | Weight: 86g

If you'd prefer to play it safe and go with Apple itself rather than a third party, go with the brand's own 20W USB-C wall plug. This is the one that really should come with the phone itself and we love how the prongs fold down to make it more compact for travel. It'll deliver fast PD speeds over a USB-C cable, charging most iPhones to 50% in under half an hour.

As with most Apple products, it comes at a cost with a standard price of £19, but when on offer on Amazon or John Lewis it can be as low as £15 (making it a better deal than the model above).

Anker 40W USB C Fast Charger, 2-Port

Charging speed: 40W USB-C | Ports: 2x USB-C | Dimensions: 4.9 x 4.4 x 4.6cm (not including prongs) | Weight: 77g

If you need to charge two devices at the same time, we reckon a dual port charger is a better and more convenient option than two separate wall adapters. This one stays in our laptop backpack for work and we've used it to charge our MacBook Air or iPad Air at the same time as our iPhone. It's always reliable and less than half the size of the MacBook Pro's included 61W charger.

You can get a 40W max speed when just using one port, and when plugged into both, it'll smartly split that speed between the two ports. That should mean you can charge two iPhones at once, at top speed, from one tiny package that's great for stashing in your bag.

UGREEN USB-C to Lightning Cable

Lengths: 1m or 2m | Colour: White

Just after a budget cable? The Anker option above starts from £16 while Apple's own one is £19, and we can understand how it might be hard to justify that kind of price for a cable you'd expect to have already. If you lost the one that came with your phone and you're after a cheap and reliable replacement, the UGREEN version comes in either 1m cable for only £11 or a 2m variant for £13. Much more affordable.

Apple MagSafe Charger (2m)

Cable length: 1m or 2m | Charging speed: 12-15W wireless for most iPhones, up to 25W for 16 and 16 Pro models | Dimensions: 0.83 x 7.23 x 7.23 cm | Weight: 39g

Let’s be honest, we're all guilty of scrolling through TikTok or Twitter from our bed even if we know we should probably stop using our phones before sleeping.

Apple's magnetic MagSafe puck makes your phone a bit more comfortable to hold during your pre-sleep TikTok session by attaching to the back without a cord jutting out at the bottom, and it's just as good for using in bed as it is for when you're sitting on the sofa.

It delivers a faster speed than non-Apple wireless chargers can, going up to 15W rather than just 7.5W (and now up to 25W for the iPhone 16 or 16 Pro). The only thing is that Apple's 1m cable is a bit stingy – we'd recommend picking this 2m variant rather than the short one.

Twelve South ButterFly 2-in-1 MagSafe Charger

Type: Wireless MagSafe charger | Max output: 15W (iPhone) | Weight: 136g | Included: USB-C to USB-C cable and 30W power adapter with international heads

If you’re looking for a sleek and portable charging solution for your iPhone and Apple Watch, the Twelve South ButterFly 2-in-1 is a fantastic choice. This aluminium-built charger opens like a butterfly to reveal two charging pads: one for your MagSafe-compatible iPhone and another for your Apple Watch. The MagSafe charger delivers up to 15W of power, while the Apple Watch dock supports fast charging for Series 7 and newer models.

Perfect for travel, the ButterFly comes with a 30W power adapter and swappable plug adapters for various regions, making it an excellent option for globetrotters. It folds into a slim, compact shape, and even includes a velvet travel pouch. While it doesn’t offer the fastest charging speeds compared to wired alternatives, it’s ideal for overnight charging at your bedside or during travel. The only downside is its premium price, which might be a stretch for some of us.

Still, for a dual-device charger that’s compact and thoughtfully designed, it’s a solid option for frequent travellers.

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station (3-in-1, Foldable Pad)

Type: Wireless MagSafe charger | Max output: 15W (Qi2) | Weight: 150g | Included: USB-C to USB-C cable and 40W power adapter with international heads

This Anker foldable charger is a great pick for Apple fans who want a travel-friendly charging solution for multiple devices, namely an Apple Watch, iPhone (at 15W with Qi2 compatibility) and a pair of AirPods (or any other wireless earbuds) that support wireless charging.

It has a compact "puck" design that unfolds to use and snaps back together with magnets when not in use. We've found it portable and easy to use on our travels, with the only minor downside being that it doesn’t come with a storage pouch.

Compared to other chargers like the Twelve South Butterfly, this includes an extra charging pad designed for AirPods, making it a little more versatile. There is a similar charging station from Mophie that comes with a pouch, and while we love that, this is more affordable. We also really like that this comes with all the accessories you'd want – it includes a decent USB-C cable and a 40W wall charger with international adapters, making it ideal for travel.

Priced at £79.99, this doesn’t come cheap, but it is quite a bit more affordable than similar rivals from reputable competitors. Overall, we like the neat folding design and solid build of the charger and it's a premium, well-thought-out device for those with multiple Apple devices.

How to choose the best iPhone charger

There are a couple of things you'll need to decide before you buy a new charger or cable, and we've run through the main considerations below:

USB-A vs USB-C

Without getting too lost in the specs, it's fair to say USB-C is a massive upgrade on USB-A. The Type-C connecter has been around since 2014 and the key things you need to know are that it's capable of faster data transfers and can push more power to devices.

Tablets, laptops, headphones and more charge via USB-C cables and, currently, a Lightning-to-USB-C cable is essential for iPhone fast charging for models before the iPhone 15, while you'll need a USB-C cable for the connector on iPhone 15 and 16 models.

MFI Certification

MFI stands for "Made For iPhone/iPad/iPod" and it's a rigorous set of tests that all third-party or licensed chargers, cables, adapters and other accessories must go through to be verified by Apple.

We wouldn't recommend buying anything without an MFI symbol, as you can't guarantee these are safe to use.

Wattage

Wattage is an important metric of the amount of power that can flow from your charger to your phone. Expect tablet and laptop chargers to have higher wattage to fill their bigger batteries, at least 30W or more.

It's worth noting that charging is controlled by the phone, not by the charger, so even when connected to a high-wattage wall plug, the phone will only draw what it needs.

Look for at least 18W from a single charging port for what Apple refers to as fast charging. We've also included a dual-port option in our list – ideal for charging a laptop and phone at the same time.

Weight

This might matter more with power banks but you also don't want your wall plug to weigh you down, especially if you're travelling with it and don't have loads of space in your bag. We've noted the weights of all the models in our roundup.
