If 2020 ended with one good thing, it was the release of the comforting Pixar movie Soul. Only available to stream on Disney+, Soul premiered on Christmas Day — and I instantly saw everyone talking about it on social media. (If you don’t have a Disney+ membership yet, I highly recommend it just for Soul. You can sign up here).
The main characters are Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher who is also an inspiring jazz piano player, and a stubborn “soul” named 22 who doesn’t want to go to Earth yet. The pair unknowingly go on a quest to find out what it really means to have a soul, all while trying to find their “spark.”
I don’t want to give everything away, but let’s just say Soul is an eye-opener of a movie, even if it is animated. You’ll quickly learn that having a “purpose” in life isn’t everything. Instead, life is really all about embracing and appreciating small moments.
The movie is a hilarious yet humbling lesson on life. If you haven’t yet watched it, consider it your homework for this weekend. But if you’re already a huge fan, you’re in luck. You can show your love for the movie with some of shopDisney’s newest Soul products, including T-shirts, Funko Pop! figurines, coffee mugs, face masks and more.
