Today is Summer Solstice, which is typically celebrated as the sun is rising on a morning between 20th and 22nd June every year.

This is when the sun is at its highest axis above the UK in the Northern Hemisphere, and is therefore titled midsummer: the longest day of the year.

On Solstice day, crowds often gather at Stonehenge – the national landmark near Salisbury – and await the sunrise, as this ancient site is renowned to be where prehistoric civilisations celebrated the solstice.

This morning, Morning Gloryville also hosted a Morning Rave in the Shard as the sun rose, with the intention of “Weaving together the ancient and the modern” and “co-creating a New Pilgrimage to honour the Sun.”

Whoever has that much energy in this heat must be commended, however yoga and massage were also included in the highly spiritual event, so there was time to relax.
