A roast dinner is a British staple that many indulge in to end the weekend after a long week. In Coventry, there are various pubs and restaurants which serve hearty and delicious Sunday lunches to try out.

Establishments across Coventry offer either a Sunday three-course set menu or carvery stations with all the trimmings where you can go and grab as much as you want, so there is a lot of choice on offer.

As autumn kicks in, we looked at some places in Coventry where you can have an unforgettable Sunday lunch and compiled the best ones.

1) The Oak Baginton

The Oak is described as a 'warm, family-friendly pub' that offers 'hearty lunches' and 'generous' Sunday roasts. All the Sunday roasts at The Oak are served with British roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and rich beef gravy, alongside parsnips, roasted carrots, and glazed broccoli. It also includes an unlimited top of all these elements - so what's not to like?

There are six choices of meat to choose from: sirloin of beef, loin of pork, hand-carved turkey, lamb shank, triple roast, or mushroom Wellington for those who are vegetarian. The pub also serves kids' roasts with the same options, starting from £7. There's also the option of salads, burgers, pastas, and desserts on the Sunday menu.

The Cottage, located in Earlsdon is a neighbourhood hangout that serves a delicious Sunday lunch every Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.

All the roasts are served with seasonal vegetables, roast potatoes, a giant Yorkshire pudding and gravy and there are options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free alternatives. It is recommended to book in advance to guarantee an unmissable Sunday roast.

The Cottage has a 4.5* rating and a Travellers Choice 2022 badge. One reviewer said: "Chicken roast dinner was fantastic- fast service, tasty, good quality and a generous size without being overwhelming. We had one vegetarian in our group who had beetroot Wellington for the veggie roast and she was equally as complimentary."

Another customer wrote: "A lovely, cosy pub. We had an delicious roast dinner and the staff were really friendly. Will visit again when we are in the area"

3) The Artisan Bar and Grill

The Artisan Bar and Grill has been at the centre of the city's independent food scene since 2012, where they use market-fresh ingredients, do honest cooking and have an enjoyable atmosphere for guests to experience.

All the food is made in-house by a team of talented chefs, loved by locals and travelling foodies alike, with a 4.5* rating on TripAdvisor.

One customer loved the Sunday lunch they offer and wrote: "Recently had the Sunday delivery roast Dinner, absolutely brilliant. 4 mains, 2 sides, 4 puddings and a bottle of wine for £50, was worried at that great price there would be a drop in quality or quantity but no. All meats and veg superbly cooked, a plethora of hot gravy, would (and have been) recommend to all."

4) The Bulls Head Meriden

The Bulls Head, located in Meriden is the perfect place to indulge, socialise, relax and unwind in pretty surroundings which has it's own courtyard and garden.

This pub offers proper pub food, including a traditional Sunday roast, with all the meats served with roasted root vegetables, roasted potatoes, sautéed greens, Yorkshire pudding and bottomless gravy.

One customer had an 'excellent Sunday lunch' experience and said: "The Sunday roasts are better than my mothers (and that's saying something!!!!) Me and my wife were served by Jessica, very friendly and professional, something that seems to be missed in restaurants nowadays. My wife had beef and I had the trio cooked by Tom, both were amazing and big portions."

5) The Milpool

The Milpool, located on Hipswell Highway in Wyken is a gastropub which offers casual dining and a calm and relaxing atmosphere

The pub offers classic British dining with offer tasty Sunday lunches from 12pm to 6pm every Sunday where you have the choice of: a roasted rump of beef, turkey breast, half-roasted chicken or minted lamb chops. There is also a vegetarian option of cumin, butternut squash and lentil wellington (also available as a vegan option).

One diner said: "The roast dinners we had were perfect, the wife had the beef, myself the turkey, plenty of it including the vegetables. We couldn’t squeeze desserts as we were both full but they had a great selection if you’d got the room."

6) The Greyhound Inn

The Greyhound Inn is a traditional, early 1800s canalside pub in Longford which always has a buzzing atmosphere.

They offer a Sunday lunch for £10.95 which gives the choice of roast beef, honey roasted ham or turkey crown. The choice of trimmings include: roast potatoes, mash potato, buttered carrots, honey glazed parsnips, pigs in blankets, sage and onion stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and many more.

The Greyhound Inn has a 4.5* rating and a Travellers Choice 2022 badge, with the following ratings below: One customer wrote: "This is a terrific pub, great location on the canal junction, warm service, and super food. Sunday lunch was very good, wonderful vegetables, roast potatoes and perfectly cooked roast."
