The best reactions to Game of Thrones season 7 debut
Fans have impatiently waited 12 months for Game of Thrones to return to screens, so we can forgive them for flocking to Twitter in their droves over the past 48 hours to join in on the glorious meme party that kicked off on social media after the first episode of season seven aired in the US and UK.
There was almost too much to muse over in the one episode – what with Ed Sheeran swanning in dressed as a Lannister soldier, Jorah Mormont’s scaley arm scaring the life out of Samwell at the Citadel, and Daenerys Targaryen finally reaching the island of Dragonstone off the coast of Westeros and closer to the Iron Throne.
But what did fans make of it online?
It started off with a few celebratory tweets as people rejoiced at Game of Thrones’ triumphant return.

And Arya’s epic intro – slaying Walder Frey’s collaborators with poisoned wine leaving behind just one survivor – pleased everyone.

Then poor Ed took a few knocks after delivering what can only be described as the most unsubtle cameo in TV history and he DELETED his Twitter.

While others were utterly shocked that Samwell was seen scrubbing toilets in the Citadel when he should have been looking up how to destroy the huge White Walker army slowly making its way south…
