Best Sunday roasts revealed - and local pub makes top 50
A leading food guide has revealed its top 50 Sunday roasts across Britain, with a local pub making the list. The Good Food Guide has announced its inaugural roast dinner awards today (Wednesday, November 20).
The Good Food Guide found roast dinner remains the nation's favourite, with 75 per cent of readers naming it Britain's most famous dish. A survey showed 79 per cent of diners enjoy a Sunday roast throughout the year.
Local pub The Olive Branch in Clipsham, Rutland, earned a spot in the guide's Central England list. The restaurant was named alongside other regional winners including the Howard Arms in Warwickshire and The Pack Horse in Derbyshire.

"This is fantastic recognition for our hardworking team," said owner Ben Jones. "As a traditional English pub, we put our heart into every Sunday roast. Our sirloin of beef comes from local farms and everything is made from scratch using quality local produce - that's what makes a proper pub roast special. It's about bringing people together over great food, which is what Sundays are all about."
Yorkshire pub The Abbey Inn was crowned the overall winner. Owner Tommy Banks, a three-time Great British Menu winner, serves rare-breed meat from his family farm at the venue, according to The Good Food Guide.
"Each winner was genuinely hard to fault, accomplished in terms of quality ingredients and execution, and warm, friendly service," said guide co-editor Chloë Hamilton.
The survey also found gravy was voted the favourite condiment, though half of the readers said their roasts weren't served with enough. Some 79 per cent of readers said they enjoy a Sunday roast all year round, with half eating roast dinners on other days of the week.
