Best women’s boots for winter: chunky stompers, ankle and knee-high options

It’s that time again. Our sandals are once again resigned to ‘back of the wardrobe’ status and we dust off our trusted boots to have our feet covered (literally) as the cold sets in – and we couldn’t be more pleased.

The undeniable winter weather essential footwear requires little to no effort. You don’t have to worry about the condition of your feet or braving a packed commute with your tooties getting squashed underfoot.

Boots can be paired with pretty much any outfit, whether you’re in dresses, skirts, or trousers. Pair your OOTD with heeled, knee-length, cowboy, pared-back or chunky iterations to instantly give your look a refined, or edgy finish.

After the monotony of our lockdown wardrobes, there has been a shift to more playful, brightly hued pieces. In boot terms, that’s translated to green, red and ecru hues, slicing through the usual oceans of black. Not to mention, comfort, practicality and ease will always have a starring role in our day-to-day. In fact, searches “chunky”, “heavy” or “stomper” boots increased by 34 per cent in the last two weeks according to fashion search platform Lyst.

A slight heel is always welcomed to the 5ft5 and under among us, but when it comes to footwear that you can actually brave the commute in, no matter the weather, flats win hands down. Rallied by the AW21 runway, this season’s biggest shoe trends include rubberised constructions, all-terrain ready oversized soles, equestrian-inspired and an unwavering demand for knee-high boots.
