A south-east London borough is attempting to plug the gap in local authority funding by offering businesses the chance to advertise on dog poo bags.
Bexley Council have launched a “great opportunity” which will allow companies to have their logo printed on the side of the bags.
They will then be handed out to residents in the borough’s parks and green spaces.
A notice on the council’s website said: “By sponsoring the bags companies will not only be promoting their business but will be helping to encourage dog owners to clean up after their pets.
“Don’t be left behind take advantage of this great opportunity to advertise your company to a wide audience at minimal cost.”
Other local authorities have taken to selling advertising space to generate revenue.
Proposals from around the UK include branded cars and sponsored street signs.
