A teenage boy has been charged with murdering a young man who was stabbed to death on the streets of south-east London.

Ben Lines, 20, was knifed in the chest in Bexley on Sunday afternoon.

A 16-year-old suspect was later arrested on suspicion of killing the former Welling School student.

Scotland Yard confirmed on Tuesday night that he has since been charged with murder and causing actual bodily harm.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Bromley Youth court on Wednesday.

Another 16-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released with no further action.

And a 17-year-old boy, who was arrested in Dartford on suspicion of murder, has been released on bail until a date later this month.

Friends have paid tribute to Mr Lines, who lived with his parents in Belvedere, less than three miles from where he was killed.

Sarah Golding, 19, a mother of one, who went to school with Ben, said: “He was a genuinely lovely boy.

“He had a big heart he cared about other people more than he cared about himself.”

Daisy Day, 19, from Belvedere, said: “He was a lovely kid, there was nothing bad about him… You hear it happens all the time but you never think it’s going to be anybody you know.

“It’s horrible.”
