Disney's Beauty and the Beast was one of this year's biggest cinematic smash hits – the only way it could possibly have been any bigger would be by having Beyoncé appear and do some ridiculously long vocal runs.

Turns out, that was actually part of the director's game plan.

Bill Condon, who directed Beauty and the Beast, spoke to Yahoo! Movies about the re-release of his previous hit Dreamgirls, which starred none other than... Beyoncé!

"Isn't that weird? God, it seems crazy!" he replied to the revelation he is the only director to ever put the 'Video Phone' songstress into a musical.

"I even tried to get her into Beauty and the Beast, but it wasn't a big enough part," he added.

"She would have been a good feather duster."

The feather duster, otherwise known as Plumette, wasn't one of the main servants in the film, but she was the other half of Lumière (which was an expansion on her role in the animated original, where she just hit on him).

Black Mirror and Doctor Who series three star Gugu Mbatha-Raw portrayed the character in the end, because Beyoncé was too busy being Beyoncé and winning awards and snatching wigs all over the shop.

Let's hope Disney get the chance to cast Bey in one of their many, many live-action adaptations they've got in the pipeline.
