Beyonce Knowles and Sean Carter (Jay-Z) welcomed baby girl Blue Ivy into the world this weekend in New York City. The celeb couple's first little one together was born via C-section in New York City. This has been the most eagerly anticipated babe in Hollyrock since the birth of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter Shiloh in 2006. Bey and Jay's daughter, who is guaranteed to have musically gifted genes, also joins the list of celebrity children with unconventional baby names.
With a mama that announces your presence into the world with a red carpet appearance and show stopping performance at the 2011 VMAs, li'l Blue Ivy was not to be born without controversy. From the moment that Beyonce donned the reddish-orange Lanvin gown and then rubbed her Dolce & Gabbana clad belly, tongues were wagging about her pregnancy.
Rumors escalated after Mrs. Carter's baby bump seemed to deflate. Fans and haters alike wondered, is she really pregnant? Or is there a well-paid surrogate hiding in the wings? The "Crazy In Love" singer even had to take to ABC's "20/20" to defend herself and her growing tummy.
So now that Blue is born all controversies disappear, right? Nope! If we know rock and roll royalty, there's always something. Here are 5 new controversies surrounding Miss Blue Ivy Carter as we all celebrate her healthy birth.
1. Rumor: "Beyonce's baby was born a month ago."
This crazy story was born when a member of the VH1 "Love and Hip Hop" cast took to her twitter account. Music publicist in the know, Yandy Smith, tweeted, "Awwww Congrats Beautiful Bey and Jay! Even though that baby been here for a month already. I be knowin. Glad you had a healthy baby. #GODBLESSYOU. Her tweet has since been deleted but not before creating a firestorm.
A media outlet picked up the story that Yandy tweeted afterward was a joke and ran with it as truth. Smith followed up the tweet with, "People need something to do. Ima [sic] start a rumor that I can fly."
2. Story: "Beyonce and Jay-Z's security kept me from my family!"
A disgruntled man from Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn was at Lenox Hill Hospital the same time that Blue Ivy was being born. He was there for the birth of his twins. The New York Daily News is reporting that the extensive security put in place turned the hospital into an exclusive velvet rope nightclub where he wasn't even allowed in to see his own babies.
Security guards also reportedly booted his relatives out.
3. Name: Blue Ivy or Ivy Blue?
The baby's name stayed a country-wide trending topic on twitter all day yesterday. First the baby's name was erroneously spread as "Ivy Blue." We now know her name is Blue Ivy. Blu-blu joins the list of celeb babies with unusual names like Auntie Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter Apple. "Welcome to the world, Blue," Gwyny tweeted.
A catering hall already named Blue Ivy Events suddenly has lots of interest. They say that they welcome the superstar family and would like to be the place on record for all of B.I.'s life events. Their tagline is already, "Where Platinum Events Are Born."
Wow. All of that and Blue Ivy was just born. We can't wait to see what she looks like. We're betting that the songbird-to-be is already gorgeous. Congrats to the Knowles-Carter family!
