Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z have welcomed twins, the singer’s father confirmed on social media.
Beyoncé’s father Matthew Knowles wished the twins a happy birthday in a tweet sent on Sunday morning.
He wrote: “They're here! #beyonce #twins #jayz #happybirthday.”
The twins, a boy and a girl, whose names are yet to be confirmed, are the second and third children for the power couple, who have a five-year-old daughter named Blue Ivy Carter.
Beyoncé and rapper Jay-Z, who have been married for 9 years, announced they were expecting twins in an Instagram post in February that immediately went viral and became the most liked Instagram post in history.
The post pictured Beyoncé displaying her baby bump and wearing a veil, with the message: “We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. - The Carters.”
Sources quoted by US Weekly said the star had given birth to the twins a week ago on June 12, with one source telling the website earlier in the year: "Blue is so excited to be a big sister!"
However, it has been reported by TMZ that Beyoncé is being kept in the hospital due to a minor medical issue, and neither the singer nor her husband have confirmed the arrival of the babies.
The news being announced on social media by Beyoncé’s father did not sit well with some of the singer’s fans, who felt the singer should have been able to share the news herself.
