Beyond Paradise star Jamie Bamber has teased a potential "scuffle" between his character Archie and Kris Marshall's Humphrey in upcoming instalments.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Bamber gave details on filming the spin-off's most recent episode, which saw Jamie slapped by Martha after attempting to kiss her.

"Well, obviously it’s not real. As very proficient actors, no slap ever is about actual contact," he said, when asked if his face had hurt while filming the scene.

"But as soon as you’re doing blows – like punches, kicks, falls – it’s technical. It’s totally technical. The slap was another instance of that."

While discussing filming techniques, Bamber mentioned that not all combat scenes are technical, adding: "Unless – unless! – you do a really awkward scuffle fight. And I’m not going to say anything more about that."

The mention of a potential fight, given Archie's recent moves on Martha, seemed to suggest a future confrontation between his character and the detective.

However, the actor remained tight-lipped, teasing that a future scuffle is "maybe" on the cards but refused to give any more away.

In another interview with Digital Spy, Bamber reflected on the kiss scene – revealing he believes Humphrey should be concerned about his relationship with Martha.

"[Archie] genuinely thinks the only mistake he’s ever made in his life was letting that relationship [with Martha] end," he said, adding that despite the knockback he still sees Archie as a "viable option" for Martha.

"[Archie is] different from Humphrey. He’s confident. He’s got means. He’s got options. The world’s at his feet and Humphrey is more eccentric."

Death in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
