A tweet this morning announced the postponement: "Simon Cowell has postponed today's Britain's Got Talent auditions in Blackpool following the death of Liam Payne. #BGT."
Last night, the former One Direction star tragically fell from a third floor hotel room in Argentina. Liam shot to stardom after auditioning on the X-Factor in 2010, also created by Cowell, which would result in the formation of the iconic boyband.
Despite coming in third behind winner Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson, One Direction took the world by storm and would release five studio albums and earn multiple number one hits. Liam performed alongside bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.
X-Factor bosses have also paid tribute to Liam following his passing on its official accounts.
Alongside a photo of the star, the tribute read: "We are heartbroken by the sad passing of Liam Payne. He was immensely talented and, as part of One Direction, Liam will leave a lasting legacy on the music industry and fans around the world. Our thoughts are with his friends, family and all who loved him."
It is reported that Liam's body was found in the internal patio of the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires at around 5pm local time.
City ambulance service provider spokesman Alberto Crescenti subsequently shared the tragic news that Liam Payne had fallen around 40 metres and could not be saved.
Crescenti said: "The alarm was raised at 5.04pm local time saying a person was lying in an internal patio at Casa Sur. At 5.11pm an ambulance arrived and the man was certified dead. Afterwards we found out he had been a famous singer.
"Unfortunately the injuries he had suffered as a result of the fall proved to be fatal. There was no possibility of resuscitating him."
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Liam's death.
