'Bharat mata nahi, Sonia Gandhi ki jai,' senior Congress leader

A senior Congress leader from Rajasthan, during a public gathering, apparently stopped his aide from shouting ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ and instead ordered him to raise the slogan, ‘Sonia Gandhi ki jai’.

In the video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, the former leader of the opposition, Bulaki Das Kalla, is clearly seen muzzling his aide and asking him to change his slogan.

No sooner that the aide begins to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, Kalla is seen intervening and whispering something into the supporter’s ears. Immediately after, the aide promptly changes his slogan, and chants ‘Sonia Gandhi zindabad’, ‘Ahmed Patel zindabad’, and ’Rahul Gandhi zindabad.’

Kalla, a five-time MLA from Bikaner, has held several top party posts such as the Rajasthan Congress President and Education Minister. However, he lost the last two Assembly elections from the same constituency and his name was conspicuously absent from the first list of candidates released by the Congress.

But after a huge uproar by his supporters, the party decided to bend its rule of not giving tickets to those who have lost two consecutive elections and granted him one.

That should be reason enough for him to swear his undying allegiance to the Nehru-Gandhi clan. But was it proper of Kalla to ask his aide to switch from ‘Bharat mata’ to ‘Sonia Gandhi’?
