'Biblical' weather hits Merseyside as region faces 'four seasons in a day'

Sunshine turned into "black" skies and torrential rain this afternoon in what has been described as “biblical” weather. The sudden downpour hit certain parts of the region on Wednesday, September 11.

Earlier in the day blue skies looked promising as relatively warm weather was forecast for the morning. It was short-lived, however, as a massive downpour arrived at around 4pm this afternoon.

Ben Mounsey, chef at No1 Parkgate on Mostyn Square, captured the torrential downpour on camera. He said: "It came out of nowhere. First sunshine and rainbows, the next thing the sky went black and the downpour was biblical."

Others have taken to social media to express their confusion at the rapid change in weather. One user posted on X, formerly Twitter: "We’re getting to that time of year where we all get all four seasons in a day."

Another commented on the unexpected drop in temperature: "Normally hardcore and wear shorts until at least October. It’s 10.8C currently and the tracky bottoms are going on to walk the dogs at lunch."

A third said: "The way the weather has been so biblical in the sense that there's sunshine in the morning and rain in the afternoon. Love it."

The Met Office has warned people to expect more unsettled weather as showers are set to continue through the night on Wednesday. The forecast reads: “Showers lingering along coastal parts through this evening and overnight, particularly across Merseyside and Cheshire.

"Elsewhere skies widely clearing, resulting in a chilly night across the region. Winds rather breezy in coastal areas, though turning lighter inland. Minimum temperature 4 °C."
