It was confirmed in August that after 12 long seasons, The Big Bang Theory will be ending, though one of Penny's family members is returning before the CBS comedy exits for good.

Keith Carradine will be back as Penny's dad Wyatt, TVLine reports.

"Wyatt is back, for a moment, anyway" Carradine said.

He added that there is an "interesting vibe on set", and said the show "has profoundly changed all of [the cast's] lives, and yet they are all still absolutely delightful".

"And there's a wistfulness there. I noticed that everyone's there doing what they have become so expert at. It's a sense of family," Carradine continued.

Penny's dad first appeared in season four of The Big Bang Theory. The episode, 'The Boyfriend Complexity', saw Penny asking Leonard (before they were a couple) to pose as her boyfriend as her dad was visiting.

Following news that The Big Bang Theory is coming to an end, Kaley Cuoco shared a snap of the cast on Instagram, and said she was "drowning in tears" after the announcement.

"This ride has been a dream come true and as life changing as it gets," she wrote. "No matter when it was going to end, my heart would have always been broken in two."

It comes after Jim Parsons (Sheldon) and Mayim Bialik (Amy) opened up about the show coming to an end.

The Big Bang Theory 's final season starts on Monday, September 24 on CBS in the US. E4 airs the show in the UK.
