A Big Bang Theory fan has noticed that the prequel series Young Sheldon ruined a plot detail featured in the hit sitcom.

The viewer posted their finding on Reddit. It concerns the safety whistle belonging to Sheldon Cooper, who was played in the original CBS comedy by Jim Parsons.

In The Big Bang Theory, this item is claimed to have been gifted to Sheldon by Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik).

However, the 10th episode of Young Sheldon's third season contradicts this as it shows the main character with the same whistle as a child.

Viewers are told by Sheldon that this whistle was a present from Amy, but the spin-off show sees Sheldon (Iain Armitage) showing off the whistle to his friends while out shopping.

The Reddit user said they didn't wish to “diminish the excellent writing skills” of each show, but stated they simply enjoy “finding these small inconsistencies”.

Metro reports that another person suggested this particular item could have been a different whistle altogether.

The Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons before drawing to a close in 2019. The fourth season of Young Sheldon is scheduled to begin on 4 November, although production is currently halted due to coronavirus.
