The Big Bang Theory is ending after 12 seasons, but Kaley Cuoco has revealed that she would have stuck around for another 20 years if it was up to her.

The actress, who plays Penny on the hugely popular CBS sitcom, said that she was upset when she found out the news and added that she wanted to continue.

"It's broken my heart," she told Extra. "I am so sad that it's ending. For the record, I would have done 20 more years... I was bad, but everyone was crying."

Previous reports have suggested that the show ending is down to Jim Parsons, who plays standout character Sheldon Cooper, being ready to move on.

At the time of the original announcement, Cuoco shared that she was "drowning in tears" knowing that The Big Bang Theory was concluding after 12 seasons.

"This ride has been a dream come true and as life-changing as it gets," she said. No matter when it was going to end, my heart would have always been broken in two. Drowning in tears, we promise to bring you the best season yet."

There is one thing about filming that Kaley won't miss, however.

"The stairs have gotten more and more exhausting as our seasons have gone on," she revealed on The Late Late Show with James Corden recently.

"Seasons 1 and 2, we were running up there. Now, it's season 12, we're all a bit older, and it's a little more difficult getting up those steps.

"So I would like that elevator to work."

The Big Bang Theory's final season airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on CBS and CBS All Access in the US. E4 airs the show in the UK.
