Big Brother 2016: Jayne Connery Admits She Was NOT Unconscious After Being Hit With Sponge

Big Brother finalist Jayne Connery delivered one of the most memorable moments of the entire series – and now she has spoken out to reveal the truth about spongegate.

It all happened during a task, in which housemates were divided into three teams and instructed to build a bridge to cross over the swimming pool, when Jayne was pelted with a wet sponge and instantly wiped out.

Falling into the water and appearing unconscious, Jayne was then rushed to hospital and checked over by doctors – once broadcast, the incident divided fans, with some claiming that she had faked the injury.

However, now that the former housemate has officially moved out of the Elstree Bungalow, after finishing in sixth place during last night’s (July 26) finale, she has had an opportunity to clear things up once and for all.

“I was not unconscious, I was just stunned,” she confessed to The Mirror. “I went into panic mode. I don’t remember much of what happened actually.

“When I got out of the pool, I remember feeling nauseous and I just panicked. I’ve been told that somebody had to pull me out but I don’t think I would drowned in six feet of water. I did panic though because I don’t like water.”

Jayne went on to defend herself in response to some of the cynical comments that were shared at the time, explaining: “I know there was a mixed reaction online but I think you really had to be there.

“The sponge hit me in a very bad place and it hurt. It was really painful and I had to go to hospital. I had the headache of all headaches for two days afterwards.“

Before adding: “I will challenge anyone to be hit with a wet sponge if you don’t believe me!”

We’re just glad that the sponge didn’t annihilate you, Jayne!
