Big Brother fans have shared their reactions to Ali Bromley's candid discussion about lesbian labels.

During a recent episode of the ITV reality show, Ali had a conversation with fellow housemates Emma, Khaled and Rosie about different types of lesbians and their labels within the community.

"So, in the lesbian community, you call lesbians like me, who are feminine-presenting, 'femmes'," she explained. "You have 'femmes', 'mascs', 'studs'."

When asked what a stud is, Ali continued: "A stud is a bit of a controversial label. You shouldn’t really call someone a stud unless they self-identify as [such].

"[It’s] used by the Black community, because back in the day, the lesbian community was a bit exclusive, and so stud lesbians developed their own name, which is not to be used by white people at all, it’s very offensive. It’s a Black woman who’s masculine-presenting, basically."

She also explained that 'black-cat' lesbians are more "aloof" and often "paired up with golden retrievers", who are more enthusiastic, while 'butches' are masculine-presenting.

"Some people still call themselves d**es, but again that’s one of those ones that, don’t ever call [them that]… they have to self-identify as [that]," she added.

"Everyone always says to me: 'You don’t look like a lesbian, blah blah blah', because they expect lesbians to be masculine-presenting. But I’m like: they’re just the ones you can see."

Viewers soon took to social media to praise Ali for bringing up the conversation and representing the lesbian community, with one writing: "I’ve never heard a conversation like this before on TV, it’s so important."

"She explained this flawlessly," said another, while a third wrote: "Honestly I could have cried at Ali talking so openly about the lesbian community. She is the representation we need and I'm so glad they included it in the episode."

Big Brother airs on ITV2 and ITVX from Sundays through Fridays, followed each night by Big Brother: Late & Live.
