The big change to end 'kiss-and-go' drop-off' at emergency Coventry hospital road
Road changes are set to be made to stop a Coventry cul-de-sac being used as a drop-off point for hospital staff and patients. Concern had been raised about non-emergency vehicles and pedestrians using an access from the cul-de-sac section of Hall Lane onto the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) site.
It led to more than 100 locals signing a petition to the city council, asking for something to be done. It read: "Traffic using the emergency access road to go into and out of the hospital and kiss and drop-offs / pickups are creating chaos around Hall Lane with cars parked both with and without permits.
"This cannot be allowed to continue as it affects access for residents, the doctor's surgery and emergency ambulances. Non-emergency ambulances had misused this road for years, even when traffic was light, to go in and out of the hospital site so proper regulated cameras need to be installed to monitor the situation."

Concerns were also raised about traffic travelling along the Hinckley Road and Woodway Lane 'regularly blocking' the Hall Lane junction. Now, following a survey, the council looks set to action.
A report to the cabinet member for city services said drones had been used as part of a survey to assess the situation. "These surveys have confirmed Hall Lane is a popular pedestrian access point with many arriving/departing Hall Lane by car to be dropped off or picked up," the report states.
"The surveys have also identified a small but consistent number of passenger cars using the emergency vehicle access as an alternative to the main site access on Clifford Bridge Road."
The solutions proposed include asking the hospital to discourage staff and visitors from using the emergency vehicle access. But there are also some proposed changes to the road network itself too.
"Installing a yellow box marking to aid operation of the Hinckley Road/Hall Lane junction and revised signage and lining at the Hinckley Road/Ansty Road/Clifford Bridge Road gyratory to aid the operation of the surrounding road network, are all proposed to assist and address the matters raised within the petition," the report said.
It said the works would be funded from the 2024/25 traffic management allocation of the capital funded Local Network Improvement Plan. Coun Patricia Hetherton is being asked to approve the plan at a meeting on January 22,
