A big clearance sale is on at a shop in Exeter as an outdoors shop prepares to say goodbye to the city. A replacement retailer has already been lined up to take its place.

Large signs have appeared in the windows of Millets on the High Street, offering 30 per cent off all products. The retailer has said all stock must go ahead of their upcoming closure.

The shop unit won't be empty for long as another major outdoors retailer will be taking over and expanding its presence in Exeter. GO Outdoors will be opening an 'Express' store on the site early next year. There is an existing full-size store at the Stone Lane Retail Park on Alphington Road, which reopened after a makeover last month.

Both Millets and GO Outdoors are owned by JD Group, which is behind various other sports and outdoors brands, including JD Sports.

Lee Bagnall, CEO of JD Outdoors said: "With the best outdoor brands we are confident this conversion will offer a rewarding shopping experience for outdoor enthusiasts in Exeter. The new GO Express store will also allow Exeter’s shoppers to benefit from our GO Outdoors loyalty programme, which provides lower prices available for members.

"While this may come as a surprise to some of our loyal Millets customers in Millets, we are committed to continuing to provide the level of service and quality that our customers expect in the GO Express stores."

The rebrand announcement comes after similar closing down sale signs were displayed in the Millets store on Queen Street in Newton Abbot.

JD Outdoors has not confirmed exactly when Exeter's branch will close but says that customers will still be able to access Millets online. The new GO Outdoors Express will open in January 2025.
