Big setback for Trump as Republicans fail to repeal Obamacare

In a dramatic twist at the eleventh hour, Donald Trump has pulled the vote on a healthcare bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, marking a major setback for the President. It also comes as a huge blow to Republicans, who failed to rally enough votes to overhaul healthcare insurance, something they have been working towards for the last seven years. “I will not sugar coat this, this is a disappointing day for us. Doing big things is hard. All of us we will take time to reflect on how we got here, what we could have done better…This is a setback, but it is not the end of the story,” said House Speaker Paul Ryan. With Republican moderates siding with their democratic opponents, it handed a victory to the Democrats who celebrated the seventh anniversary of Obamacare on Thursday. “This is pretty exciting for us, yesterday our anniversary, today a victory for the Affordable Care Act more importantly, for the American people. Tomorrow is the fifty first anniversary of Rev Martin Luther King Jnr saying in a speech…that of all of the forms of inequality, inequality in healthcare is probably the most inhumane,” said House of Representatives Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. The decision means that President Obama’s landmark Affordable Care Act will stay in place for now, a bill which offered health insurance to an additional 20 million Americans but has also been rocked by premium hikes.
