The big wheel at Nottingham's Winter Wonderland has been forced to close due to high winds. One of the Christmas market's biggest attractions, the observation wheel stands at 147ft (45m) tall beside the Council House in Old Market Square.

However, families were left disappointed on Saturday, November 23, when organisers said the wheel was closed. "We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, we hope to see you soon," they wrote in an announcement on Facebook.

It comes amid strong winds and heavy rainfall brought by Storm Bert this weekend. The observation wheel is 47ft higher than last year's iteration and consists of 36 pods, all of which are heated.

A ride round on the wheel, which lasts 15 minutes, costs £8.15 per adult and £5.15 for children under 12. Organisers confirmed all its other attractions, including the ice rink, would remain open on Saturday.
