A motorcyclist has been charged with killing a pensioner in front of his wife in a suspected road rage incident.

Stuart Bowdler, 74, was taking his wife Margaret, 61, to the pub when the couple were involved in a collision with a motorcyclist as they turned into a car park in their Ford Focus.

The retired plumber left his car to speak to the biker when an alleged altercation took place.

The couple, who had been married for 37 years, were taking a trip to their local pub the Boot and Shoe Inn in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, when the incident happened.

Colin Bailey, 30, from Clay Cross, Derbyshire, was charged with manslaughter and possessing controlled substances with intent to supply.

Mrs Bowdler said: "I'm completely shocked. It's so sad. I can't believe he's gone.

"He was such a loving and caring husband, and had worked really hard as a self-employed plumber.

"Stuart really enjoyed fishing and building model steam engines. He had only just started on one of the Duchess of Hamilton.

"We had been going to that pub for years.

"He would drive down and I would go with him and take the car so I could pick him back up later.

"But he only ever went for a quick drink. We'd always be home by 11."
