A 45-year-old motorcyclist who died in a crash on the M74 in South Lanarkshire on September 27 has been named by police.

James Martin, from the Linwood area, was killed after the black Harley Davidson motorcycle he was riding was involved in a crash with a blue Ford Focus car.

Mr Martin was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which happened at about 6.40pm near junction 13 northbound close to Abington.

In a statement, Mr Martin's family said: "We would like to thank Lanarkshire Road Policing and everyone who stopped to help and all other emergency services who attended.

"James was a proud motorcyclist and will be missed by everyone who knew him. The car driver was not injured.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Martin. His family has asked for their privacy to be respected at what is a very difficult time for them."
