Biker Jailed Over Mob Attack On SUV Driver

A man who took part in a 2013 assault on the driver of an SUV has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

Jason Brown, of Brooklyn, pleaded guilty in March to second degree assault and riot in the first degree over an attack on 29 September, 2013, in which Alexian Lien was pursed through Manhattan, dragged from his Range Rover and beaten by several motorcyclists.

Prosecutors said Brown, 41, was part of the group that stamped on Mr Lien and hit him with their motorcycle helmets after a collision between one of the bikers and his vehicle.

Mr Lien, 34, needed stitches to his face after the attack. His wife and two-year-old daughter, who were also in the car, were unhurt.

Kenneth Montgomery, a lawyer for Brown, said: "He's accepted responsibility for his actions. He's a very thoughtful, responsible man."

The confrontation, which was captured on the helmet camera of one of the bikers, began on the West Side Highway after the motorcyclists surrounded Mr Lien and he struck one as the motorcyclist deliberately slowed his bike in front of him.

The group then chased Mr Lien for three miles into Washington Heights and he struck another biker after attempting to get away.

That motorcyclist, Edwin Mieses, was paralysed and has launched legal action against Mr Lien.

Eleven people, including an undercover NYPD officer, have either pleaded guilty or been convicted of charges over the incident, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Two - Edwin Rodriguez and Allen Edwards - were sentenced in February to five years' probation.

In March, Christopher Cruz was jailed for four months for his role and another biker, Reginald Chance, was jailed for two years.

The other motorcyclists are awaiting sentence in connection with the assault.

Detective Wojciech Braszczok, 34, was found guilty of assault last month.
