Biker killed in A500 'hit-and-run smash' as police hunt driver of 'dark vehicle'

Police have confirmed that a biker died in a hit-and-run crash on the A500. The young man - aged in his 20s - was pronounced dead at the scene near Audley after motorcycled hit the central reservation.

The D-road was shut in both directions for around 13 hours following the smash late on Friday (October 4) as an accident investigation got underway.

His next of kin has been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner. Now Staffordshire Police are trying to trace the driver of a 'dark-coloured vehicle' believed to be involved in the collision, which happened shortly after 10pm.

A force spokesman said: "We are appealing for information after a motorcyclist died following a suspected non-stop collision on the A500 on Friday. We were called shortly before 10pm on Friday to the A500 at Audley towards junction 16 of the M6 following reports of a collision.

"Officers attended and found a motorbike in collision with a central reservation. Sadly, the motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

"A dark-coloured vehicle was reported as involved in the collision and left the scene prior to our arrival. We are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who may have relevant dashcam footage of the area at the time to get in touch."
