A biker has hit out at council traffic wardens after landing two parking fines in a town centre - and accusing delivery drivers of leaving their vehicles there without punishment. Daniel Pugh landed the £70 fines on Friars Street and Corporation Street, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, in the space of a matter of days.

But the man has accused traffic wardens of failing to book delivery drivers who he has seen committing the same offences.

Daniel said: "It appears delivery drivers can park their bikes wherever they want but I keep getting parking tickets. Every time I appeal they won’t accept it. I’ve got depression, mental health problems, and dyslexia and this is causing me serious stress. It’s not fair, there are plenty of delivery drivers who even park in disabled spaces, but they don’t get a ticket. It’s beyond a joke.”

Staffordshire County Council operates the traffic wardens in Newcastle borough.

Councillor Mark Deaville, cabinet member for strategic highways, said: “Civil parking enforcement is an important service that helps deter drivers from parking illegally, keeps our roads and streets on the move, and is essential for our local economies. Anyone given a parking ticket has the right to appeal against the decision and we do advise people to appeal if they feel a fine has been given unfairly. These appeals are then heard by The Traffic Penalty Tribunal, which is chaired by an independent adjudicator.”
