Genk boss Thorsten Fink has given an update on Bilal El Khannouss’ potential Leicester City transfer.

The Foxes are reportedly interested in the 20-year-old who currently plies his trade in Belgium. According to BBC Sport, the club are edging closer to striking a deal with a fee thought to be in the region of £21m as Steve Cooper looks to add attacking options before Friday’s transfer deadline at 11 pm.

As reported by Dutch outlet HLN , Fink explained: "Bilal's mind was set on leaving. It was good that we didn't play at the weekend because you know that his mind wasn't on it," Fink said.

It was also said that El Khannouss did not train alongside his teammates this week in order to push through a deal, Fink was not best pleased, saying: “He is a 20-year-old boy. That makes it a different story from someone who is 28. So let's not be too hard on him. Look, I understand how these things work. If Bilal had had a bit more experience, he would probably have waited and let Dimitri de Condé and the board do their job”

He added: "You need players who are fully focused on their club and not on a transfer. So far, that has always been done well. You don't win games without character, you saw that against Club Brugge."

He continued: "It was always the plan that El Khannouss would leave this summer. Is Leicester the right move? I'm not his agent and I don't know. It's not up to me to say anything about that. If it feels good for him, it's okay.”

The 20-year-old has shown potential and sports a large amount of experience considering his age. Last season, he played 37 games scoring three goals as well as registering six assists in the Belgian Pro League.
