Naga Munchetty tells Bill Turnbull she misses him in emotional 'BBC Breakfast' reunion

BBC Breakfast was home to a reunion today as Bill Turnbull appeared via live video link to speak with former colleague Naga Munchetty and Dan Walker, who replaced the presenter when he left the programme in 2016 after 15 years.

Turnbull, 63, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017, discussed his health in the chat and as the interview came to an end, Munchetty shared an emotional moment with the Classic FM presenter.

"I don’t think you can battle against cancer, I don’t believe in the vocabulary of being an adversary, of being in opposition, I don’t think that helps,” Turnbull said.

"I think what we need to do is, well here’s a situation how can I help myself get from a position of being ill to not being quite so ill or being healthy. Let’s work together with the body to do that."

Munchetty, 44, replied: "I love you Bill, miss you. Sending you a big hug."

Meanwhile, Walker, 42, added: "It's so lovely to talk to you, we get asked so regularly how you are, so it's lovely to have you on the show today for many of our Breakfast viewers to see that you're looking well and feeling well too."

Turnbull also shared an update on his health ahead of Thursday’s Channel 4 documentary Bill Turnbull: Staying Alive which charts his life following his diagnosis.

The father-of-three said: "The only reason I can't be with you is not cancer-related, I've had a bug that I can't quite shake off.

"But I've had no aches and pains for a long time and I feel remarkably cheerful and healthy."

Earlier this month, Turnbull spoke in defence of Munchetty after the BBC overturned its ruling to uphold a complaint made against her for comments she made about President Donald Trump.

He said: "Naga’s an old friend, I’ve worked with her a lot. In my personal opinion I know the BBC has its procedures it has to go through and that sort of thing but my view was that she was within her rights to do what she did and I thought the ruling was wrong."

Turnbull added: "I’m very happy for Naga, that it’s been turned round."
