The family of a Russian tycoon killed in a car crash in Surrey have described him as the “most amazing person” as they paid tribute following his death.

Relatives of Dmitry Obretetskiy thanked those who have supported them following the businessman’s death in a collision involving three vehicles in Oxshott.

The 49-year-old, reportedly a billionaire, “filled” the lives of his loved ones, his family said in statement following the fatal crash on November 25.

They said: "Dmitry was a quiet and private man.

"We have lost a most amazing person who filled our lives. We thank everyone for their support at this awful time and take courage and strength from the sympathy expressed.”

The family asked for privacy during this "painful time" as they try to "cope with this horrendous incident".

Sources described Mr Obretetsky as a billionaire who made his fortune in Volgograd after the fall of the Soviet Union before moving to Surrey with his wife, two daughters and son.

Mr Obretetsky’s consulting company, LLC Advant, said: “We know very little about what happened. Of course, this is a great loss and tragedy for all of us.”

He was owner of Magnat Trade Enterprise, a distributor for Mars, Nestle and Procter & Gamble in Russia.

An investigation by Surrey Police into the circumstances of the crash remained ongoing.
