The Bill's original cast have reunited via video call to celebrate the show coming to UKTV Play, the free on-demand entertainment service.

The classic police drama series, which ran for 26 years from 1984 to August 2010, is coming to the streaming service on May 1, with a further four series to be made available.

Those who took part in the virtual reunion included fan favourites Trudie Goodwin (WPC June Ackland), Chris Ellison (DI Frank Burnside), Eric Richard (Sgt Bob Cryer), Mark Wingett (PC Jim Carver) and Graham Cole (PC Tony Stamp).

The stars answered a series of questions from fans, as well sharing some of their most memorable moments on set, behind-the-scenes gags and what the show would like in 2020 if was ever re-made.

When asked what their fondest memories of the show are, Chris recalled that they shot their cars scenes "with our trousers off, not because we were too hot, just bored, haha!".

Mark's most lasting memory, meanwhile, was "the belly laughs we had every day," admitting that the cast would be in "fits of giggles" at least once a day, with Trudie adding that "a lot of corpsing went on as well".

When discussing how the show might look in 2020, Trudie suggested the most noticeable difference would be the lack of police on the streets, but there would at least be more female and ethnic minority officers on the show now.

The Bill: The Early Years - Series 1-5 will be available to stream from May 1 at 10am on UKTV Play, with a further four series to be made available, one a month from June.
