As devastating bushfires continue to be fought in Australia, Bindi Irwin has said she wishes her father Steve Irwin was still alive to give his "advice and strength" in the troubling times.

Bindi has continued her father's conservation work following his 2006 death where he was killed by a stingray barb and has been documenting her family’s work amid the crisis.

She posted a picture of her father and wrote alongside the photo: "Dad spent his life working so hard to protect wildlife and wild places, especially in Australia.

"I wish he was here right now to give advice and strength during this time of devastation with the bushfires. I know that his spirit lives on through our conservation work and I hope together we can make him proud."

The 21-year-old has already shared her hopes of being able to save as many animals as possible during the bushfire crisis.

Last week, Bindi confirmed that she and her family were safe and there were no fires near the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital in Queensland where they had already treated 90,000 patients.

She shared: "With so many devastating fires within Australia, my heart breaks for the people and wildlife who have lost so much. I wanted to let you know that we are SAFE. There are no fires near us @AustraliaZoo or our conservation properties. Our Wildlife Hospital is busier than ever though, having officially treated over 90,000 patients.

"My parents dedicated our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to my beautiful grandmother. We will continue to honour her by being Wildlife Warriors and saving as many lives as we can."

Bindi has been giving regular updates on the animal hospital and its patients on her Instagram page, where she has encouraged followers to donate to local fire stations as well as a fundraiser for drinking stations on the family's conservation property.
