A man who lost his virginity with a bionic penis at the age of 45 has told This Morning about his first experience of being intimate with his partner of six years.

Andrew Wardle had previously been a guest on the ITV daytime show to discuss the surgery he was about to undergo for a condition he had lived with from birth which meant that he didn’t have a penis and couldn’t have sex.

But after six years with his partner Fedra, they have finally been able to have sex thanks to a phalloplasty operation costing £70,000 – and the couple revisited the This Morning sofa with an update.

Wardle said: “You’d be completely shocked to see what they can build. I never thought it would be anything like that.”

The operation involved taking skin, nerves and veins from Wardle’s arm and back to build the penis, but he admitted that it had been an uncomfortable experience to begin with.

He said: “I had a three-week erection, which was very uncomfortable, and I had to stay in at home for three weeks.”

Wardle added: “When I think of [that area] from childhood, it was associated with bullying and physical pain.

“When you’re a child you link it with hospitals, but when you reach 12 or 13 you realise it’s going to be a huge problem.”

The story split viewer opinion, with people disagreeing over whether it was inspirational, or too much information.

Fedra explained that they had taken their relationship slowly to begin with.

She said: “We got there, we built it in an old-school way.

“The first time was really natural, it only lasted around 30 minutes. It was really magical.”

Wardle explained how the treatment had changed his life and said that they were thinking of starting a family next year.

He said: “I used to pin it on the drugs I had to take when I lost a job or a girlfriend. I can see a future now.”

However, some viewers were bemused by This Morning’s eclectic choice of stories for the episode.
