A Birmingham Airport store opened in time for summer will be a "welcome addition" for holiday-makers, travel chiefs have said. The new shop, located in the departures lounge, has opened just in time for the summer, and will be well used, with some 221,500 customers expected for the half-term holiday rush alone.

The new store is called Well Pharmacy and is located inside WHSmith’s flagship airside store in BHX, which opened last December after a hefty £2 million cash investment by WH Smith. Customers can expect to find health and beauty, travel essentials, food-to-go and tech in the new store, alongside pharmacy products and healthcare services.

It will also have the unique offering of a qualified in-store pharmacist meaning holiday-makers will be able to access over-the-counter medicines. The store arrives in a period of huge change for Solihull-based BHX, after its "state-of-the-art" security hall upgrade came into operation on May 25.

The security hall upgrade is now complete, with a brand new security check point area - and huge changes for travellers, which you can read more on here. On the store opening, Andrew Harrison, managing director of UK travel at WHSmith said: “We are celebrating the opening of a fourth Well Pharmacy inside our UK Travel stores and adding their health expertise to our offer.

"Our travelling customers are time-pressed and want a fast, convenient and enjoyable shopping experience when on the go and our one-stop-shop format is designed to offer customers everything they need under one roof. Coming just one week after the launch of Smith’s Family Kitchen, our new, high quality, own-brand food range, customers have plenty of reasons to shop with WHSmith when they next travel through Birmingham Airport.”

Richard Gill, commercial director of Birmingham Airport said: “The introduction of the Well Pharmacy within the biggest WH Smith airside store is a welcome addition to our departure lounge. Customers will be able to get those last minute items but also talk to a pharmacist for any advice.

“WHSmith has been a partner for many years at the airport and is always looking into ways to enhance the customer experience. The new store only opened in November last year and already additions are being made, with the introduction of the new pharmacy.”
