Birmingham art project loved by Joe Lycett to return - and it's completely free
Hundreds of local artists will open their studio doors to the public for free as part of Birmingham's biggest art trail happening later this month. Birmingham Open Studios (BOS), backed by Brummie comedian Joe Lycett, will see 165 artists and groups display their work across the city in Birmingham's biggest art trail.
As part of the event, which is completely free to attend, artists will offer live demonstrations of their craft and workshops to the public at their homes or studios. The public can view all of the artists' work in their creative environment, giving them an insight into the artist's lives and creative processes.
Thousands of visitors are expected over the two weekends across all 74 participating venues - with local art available to purchase. Local comedian, celebrity and artist Joe Lycett said he was 'proud' to be Birmingham Open Studios' ambassador for the 2nd year running.

"I've long said that Birmingham’s art scene is one of the most exciting and unique in the country," said Joe Lycett. "I'm biased, of course, but I truly think there's an approach that seems underground, rebellious, inclusive, funny and ultimately unfazed by the rules of the traditional art world.
"Birmingham Open Studios is a very cool and inspiring opportunity to see that art where it’s made – in kitchens, living rooms, garden sheds and beyond – that proves that anyone can and should make art."
Sarah Cage, a textile artist from Kings Norton, said: "Birmingham Open Studios is a way to connect with people who might not otherwise see your work. I enjoy talking to visitors, explaining how I develop my textiles, and seeing a different range of people than my immediate friends and acquaintances. It is an occasion to see what local people do, that you might not be aware of - and possibly to acquire some unique art work."
Katie 'Jornalista' Robbins, a local ceramacist, added: "As an artist who works on her own I love being part of the community of Birmingham Open Studios. Not only is it a chance for customers who may even live in the same street as me to discover my work; but it’s also a chance to connect with other artists, through cross promotion and also by visiting them in their venues, (whether that be a shared venue or their own studio)."
This year's event will run from 11am-5pm across two weekends - September 28th-29th and October 5th–6th. Visitors can use the BOS app to discover artists near them. For a full full list of partcipating artists click here.
