The Midlands has been covered in a blanket of snow once again - and more could be on the way. The white stuff has been falling across the Black Country and parts of Birmingham this evening (Thursday, November 21).

Snow was reported to be falling in the north of the city in Aston, the south of the city in Stirchley and also in the Black Country. It began snowing in the region at around 7pm, despite not being forecast to arrive until much later according to Apple's weather maps.

Snow was predicted to hit at 8pm and 9pm, so more snow could be on the way in different areas tonight. And it likely won't be long before more is on the way as further snow showers have predicted throughout the early hours, from around 4am.

It comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice. The alert, which covered the West Midlands, runs until 10am tomorrow (Friday, November 22).

The Met Office said 2-5cm of fresh snow was possible, with this most likely on ground above 100m. Icy stretches were also expected to form on untreated surfaces during Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning as temperatures drop below freezing.

The forecast for Friday predicted wintry flurries would "gradually fade during the day with sunny spells for many in the afternoon". However it was expected to be "another cold day", with maximum temperature of 5C.

It was also expected to be a wet and windy start to the weekend as Storm Bert was due to bring heavy persistent rain, and snow over the hills. Bu that was due to clear through Sunday, with showers and brighter spells on Monday and temperatures "noticeably milder".
