Passengers who use buses to and from Birmingham are being told of changes to bus stops. A switch comes into force on Sunday, September 29, meaning some will have to catch and alight elsewhere.

National Express West Midlands, which provides most bus services in the city, said the changes were happening as phase one of Birmingham’s metro extension works was completed and phase two began. The extension is bringing tam services to Digbeth and the High Speed 2 station at Curzon Street.

The following services will be affected: 2/3, 4/4A, 5, 6, 45/47, 61/63, 82/87, 97/97A & X21/X22. People are being asked to visit the company’s website for more information.

The changes mean some stops will no longer be served, with passengers asked to get on and off elsewhere. They include stops on Moor Street Queensway and Carrs Lane.

According to Birmingham City Council, the city’s new metro route will run from Bull Street and terminate at a new stop at High Street in Digbeth. There will be four new stops along the stretch.

Construction has now moved on to the next stage along Moor Street Queensway. The works will extend the track in Lower Bull Street further through Albert Street and are expected to be completed in autumn 2024.

Meanwhile, a consultation has been launched over plans to make key changes to Birmingham's bus network. Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) which is responsible for co-ordinating transport services in the West Midlands, has urged people to have their say on designs for three new cross-city bus routes.

It is hoped the new routes would "improve bus reliability and better connect communities". They include routes for Alcester Road South, Sutton Coldfield and Castle Vale to Longbridge and Soho Road.

West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker said: "It's vital that we work together to build a network that is, not just efficient, but also affordable and reliable. This is the start of our journey toward a bus network that we can be proud of and makes sure every resident has access to affordable and dependable bus services."
