A child has been injured after a van smashed through the walls of a house in Birmingham.

Paramedics and firefighters were called to the crash at around 7.15am on Monday to reports that the van's driver had lost control of the vehicle and gone through the side of the house on Chatham Road, Northfield.

The child in the house at the time sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and was treated at the scene, while the driver, who escaped out the back of the van, was taken to hospital.

The fire service said that gas and power to the property will be isolated, and a structural engineer will assess the damage.
