Birmingham City have been linked with a staggering £10m move for Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg as Knighthead continue to flex their financial muscles. Blues spent heavily in the summer transfer window reconstructing their squad following relegation to League One and smashed the division's transfer record with the deadline day permanent signing of Jay Stansfield.

Things have begun well on the pitch; Chris Davies has led Blues to six wins in a row for the first time since 1985, having inspired a comeback from two goals down to win 3-2 against Peterborough on Saturday. They now sit top of League One and remain the only team unbeaten in the division.

Knighthead's ambitions, of course, are not limited to purely returning Blues to the second tier and the long-term success of the club is something they're intent on achieving. To that end, signing younger players - akin to Stansfield - with promising futures and who Blues can build their squad around is on the agenda.

Rigg, who has been linked by the Sun on Sunday morning, would be the sort of addition which makes sides in the top two divisions of English football sit up and take notice. The teenager, who broke into the first-team environment at the Stadium of Light under Tony Mowbray last season, has been a regular in the side despite his young age and he scored a classy winner at Middlesbrough last weekend.

Rigg, who is looking to inspire the Mackems to promotion and a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017, has been linked with the likes of Everton for quite a period of time, too, and understandably has admirers throughout the top flight. He has been a regular in the England under 17s and 18s age groups.
