Birmingham City midfielder Josh Home has returned to the North East after completing a loan move to non-league side Gateshead for the duration of the 2024/25 season. Home, a former Newcastle United academy player, who only turned 19 this summer, has been involved in Steve Spooner's under 21s side in the Professional Development League at the beginning of this season.

Home spent plenty of time in the first-team environment in pre-season under Chris Davies, after the host of departures following the end of last season and before the glut of arrivals who came through the door in August.

Davies, after giving Home and a host of other exciting young talents including Brandon Khela minutes in the pre-season win at Shrewsbury Town, admitted at that stage that Blues still required a host of transfers for the first-team - which, it transpired, they succeeding in completing - and that that'd likely mean loan time for a number of youngsters.

Romelle Donovan and George Hall both left the club on deadline day for loan moves away, as did Tommy Fogarty who joined Dunfermline. Home now joins that list of loan rangers, heading to the Heed who are fifth in the National League under manager, former Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

“I’m buzzing to be honest,” said Home. “I’ve been here for two weeks now, training with the group while things were getting sorted. “The main thing for me was the type of football that Gateshead play. It’s what every player wants to be involved in, keeping the ball on the floor and playing through the lines, so I’m really over the moon to be honest.

“The type of player I am, I like to keep things ticking in the middle of the park, play forward when I can and get on the ball as much as I can, so obviously seeing the way Gateshead play drew me in.”
