A Bordesley Green builders merchant has pledged to find a new location for 'overflowing' stock which local worshippers claim is a 'serious health and safety risk' to Mosque-goers. Worshippers at the Darul Barakaat Mosque have launched a petition for the removal of building materials which are allegedly 'obstructing' the pavements around the mosque.

Local resident, Khalid Saifullah, has accused Cambabest Builders Merchant on Venetia Road of using local pavements as an 'extension' of their business. He said the 'dangerous and heavy materials' posed a risk to young children and the elderly who visit the mosque.

Cambabest said it was 'fully committed to serving our neighbours with the utmost care and respect' and were 'close' to a deal solve the 'problem'. A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: "We are aware of the situation in these locations and are working with the businesses in this location to find a workable solution for all parties."

Khalid Saifullah is one of over 500 people who have signed a petition calling on the city council to step in and remove the objects 'obstrcuting' the pavement. He said the problem has persisted for 'years.'

"The streets are full of materials everywhere," he told BirminghamLive. "There are so many you can't even walk on the pavement

"Three years ago we politely requested the company move the materials . I've contacted the council and my MP a number of times but nothing has happened.

"Building debris is strewn all across the pavement and road, it is causing damage to cars and it's a hazard to pedestrians. Ladies, kids and elderly people are coming to the mosque - it's not safe for them.

"We just want to solve the problem. Things have been getting worse and worse."

When approached, Cambabest Ltd said it took 'great pride' in being a long-standing part of the Birmingham community and was committed to removing the 'overflow of stock.' A spokesperson for the group said: "Due to limited space and unforeseen circumstances related to our previous site—part of a regeneration project managed by Birmingham City Council—we have faced challenges with the overflow of stock.

"Birmingham City Council approached us about taking over our site for their redevelopment project, and in return, we were to be re-sited. We continue to work closely with them to find a new location that suits both our business and the community. We are aware of the concerns raised by some residents regarding the use of parts of Garrison Lane, Venetia Road, and Tilton Road as temporary extensions to our business operations.

"We want to reassure the community that this situation is not something we have taken lightly. We remain in ongoing discussions with local MPs, the council, and neighbouring landowners to explore solutions and are close to finalising a deal that will solve the problem.

"Cambabest was founded in Birmingham over 40 years ago, and we remain, at heart, a community business. We deeply appreciate the patience and understanding of the community as we work towards a solution. Rest assured, we will continue to listen and collaborate with all parties involved to ensure that our operations have as little impact as possible on the local area."
