Birmingham Police Officer Commandeers Bike to Catch Suspect

A quick-thinking police officer commandeered a man’s bike to pursue a suspect in Birmingham, England, on August 31, according to West Midlands Police.

Video from PC Tom Harris’s body-worn camera shows him exiting his and running up a grass path before asking a man if he could borrow his bike. Harris is then seen cycling to catch the suspect, whom he handcuffs and places under arrest.

Police said the man was an alleged domestic abuser who was wanted over a bail breach.

“He spent a night in our cells before appearing in court the next day when his bail was revoked and he was remanded into prison,” they said.

Police said they made sure the “kind-hearted member of the public was quickly reunited with his bike”. Credit: West Midlands Police via Storyful
